1. Uterine artery embolisation for fibroids
Uterine fibroids can lead to a number of discomforting symptoms like pelvic pain and bleeding. Uterine fibroid embolisation is a minimally invasive procedure which aims to relieve these symptoms by preventing the blood flow to the fibroids.
Our Treatment
After our interventional radiologist has determined that your fibroids need to be treated with embolisation, he will let you know how to prepare for the intervention. Usually the embolisation is carried out under local anesthesia during a short stay in hospital. This is an uterus saving procedure where only the fibroid is treated without affecting the fertility or functioning of the uterus.
2. Embolisation for post-partum hemorrhage (PPH)
It is common for mothers who have given birth to hemorrhage, meaning that they lose a lot of blood after delivery. This is known as post-partum hemorrhage or PPH. PPH can be life-threatening. Embolisation is a minimally invasive treatment which is used to block the bleeding vessels.
Our Treatment
The interventional radiologist will insert a catheter (tube) into a blood vessel in your groin and will guide it under imaging to the right and left uterine arteries. A microparticles (particles which are smaller than a grain of sand) is then injected into the uterine arteries which reduces the blood flow to the uterus and in turn controlling excessive bleeding.
3. Fallopian tube recanalisation
Fallopian tube recanalisation is the reopening of the fallopian tubes with the help of microcatheters and microguidewires. This procedure is used to treat infertility caused by a blockage in the fallopian tubes.
Our Treatment
The first part of the procedure starts with a basic gynaecological exam. Then interventional radiologist will insert a microguidewire and microcatheter in one of your fallopian tubes and will push the material causing the blockage into your abdominal cavity. This procedure is used to ease infertility caused by blockage of the fallopian tubes.
